If Among the Beasts & Briars and The Lord of the Rings combined into a beautiful fairytale, you would have The Arrow and The Crown by Emma C. Fox. You're drawn in from the very first scene, and it never lets up. Normally good about guessing twists, I was pleasantly surprised all the way to the end. Fans of YA fantasy won't want to miss this eloquently written novel that features everything from magic and nature to complex relationships.
I can't wait to read more from this author — especially since she lives in my same town! Definitely five stars for this one!
Aimée Carter's The Goddess Test series is right on up there with Percy Jackson for me, and maybe a bit higher now that I'm older. I love me some Greek mythology, but what I especially like about this series is how the main character has lived a normal life and isn't a god (though, spoiler alert, that might change during the books). The tagline is, "Become immortal or die trying," so that should give some away.
The characters, their story arcs, and the overall plot drew me in from the start, and I couldn't put the books down. While there are familiar Greek gods involved, she puts a fresh twist on them. So, whether you're looking for a fantastical love story, mythology, or a great (and quick) read, you'll want to check out this series I gave five stars to on Goodreads.
One day, I hope to publish a book half as good as the ones on this blog.
